Te Kura offers several types of enrolments. These depend on the student’s eligibility to enrol. The Ministry of Education sets criteria for enrolment at Te Kura through its enrolment policy. The enrolment types are:
A student aged between 3-6 years old who is a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or a domestic student who meets one of the eligibility criteria set out by the Ministry of Education. Those students who apply under 3 years old will be put on the ECE wait list.
A full-time student is one who is aged between 5-19 years old, who is residing in New Zealand and is a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or domestic student and who meets one of the eligibility criteria for fulltime study set out by the Ministry of Education.
A student who is not eligible under the Ministry of Education’s criteria for a funded place at Te Kura may be able to enrol as a fee-paying student. The exact fees depend on the student’s citizenship status, place of residence and level of study. Enrolments are for a calendar year only.
An overseas student is one who is aged between 5-19 years old, who is a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident (having resided in New Zealand for two years or more) who meets one of the full-time overseas eligibility criteria as set out by the Ministry of Education.
A student who is turning 20 years during the year of enrolment. You must be living in New Zealand and a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or domestic student and not attending a secondary school full-time. An administration fee of $111 per course is charged. The duration of enrolment is until all relevant subject level assessments for your programme of learning are complete, or the end of the calendar year, whichever is the sooner.
Adults enrolling in online courses must have access to a suitable device and internet connectivity, so please check our course information pages to see whether your course is online before enrolling.
A student who is 16 years of age or over and is not attending a school full-time. Students enrolled under this gateway may remain enrolled up to and including the end of the school year in which the student turns 19 years of age.
Before enrolling, please check the course information on our website to see how your course is delivered. Online courses such as courses at curriculum levels 3-5 and NCEA Level 1 require access to a suitable device and internet connectivity. See the list of courses under What you can study or search for specific courses.
