Kaupapa Māori

« Back to Subjects

Kaupapa Māori formally recognises Te Ao Māori, and Māori skills and knowledge, through the sub-fields listed below. Students add to their NCEA options by choosing standards from separate sub-fields, or from a range of sub-fields, and by linking authentic learning and achievement in Kaupapa Māori to learning and standards from many other NCEA courses.

Through Kaupapa Māori students have the opportunity to build on prior learning and experience and to develop new skills and insights. There are many opportunities to apply the skills and knowledge of Kaupapa Māori in community and whānau contexts, work exploration leading to job shadowing, internships, secondary-tertiary opportunities, and future education and employment opportunities.

The Māori economy is a significant contributor to the New Zealand economy overall, with opportunities across all sectors of society from government, local government, primary industries, manufacturing and tourism.
