« Back to Music
Music is a fundamental form of personal and cultural expression. By making, sharing and responding to music, students have opportunities to nurture their own creative potential as well as lay a foundation for lifelong enjoyment of and participation in music.
This course builds skills in solo and group performance on an instrument or with voice. It also provides study of composition, music knowledge, aural perception, score reading and music technology (only in consultation with the senior teacher).
All students need their own instrument and access to a music mentor within their own community.
As a way of acknowledging students’ strengths in broader performing arts disciplines, some Level 1 dance standards are also offered within this course.
Students should have two or more years of music learning. To undertake the dance standards, students should have two or more years experience in dance or Māori performing arts or both.
