Te Ara Kōhungahunga - Early Childhood

Te Kura offers a free, individualised programme for ākonga (learners) aged from two to six years old.

Kaiako (teachers) work in partnership with you and your whānau to create an individual learning programme that aligns with Te Whāriki, the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, and Te Ara Pounamu, our local curriculum. All of our kaiako are trained and registered.

Our whānau has really enjoyed being part of Te Kura's ECE programme with my daughter. Being able to get out into the great outdoors and still being able to fit in so much learning, reading and writing while being together as a whānau is awesome and wholesome. We can't wait for our younger children to jump on board with it too. We highly recommend it for any family.

Whakawhanaungatanga - Collaboration and Connection

Relationships and regular communication between whānau and kaiako are the foundation of a successful early learning programme with Te Ara Kōhungahunga.

Through regular engagement – a minimum monthly contact – kaiako and whānau collaborate to develop individualised learning outcomes for tamariki based on their interests, learning needs and development.

Our online programme is delivered through our secure online learning platform, My Te Kura.

When enrolled with Te Ara Kōhungahunga, tamariki and whānau have access to:

  • the support of a team of qualified registered early childhood kaiako
  • My Te Kura, our online platform which offers a library of play-based learning modules
  • Te Kura library, which includes the delivery of books to your home and access to our e-library
  • termly resource packs of support learning materials delivered to your home.
