Māori is one of the official languages of New Zealand and is an integral part of the country’s culture. There are numerous reasons to learn Māori including personal enjoyment or career requirements. Whatever the reason may be, learning Māori provides great satisfaction, a greater connection with New Zealand and an enhanced understanding of our culture and society. For many ākonga, including young adult and adult learners, there are no fees for Te Reo Māori courses. Please see the Fees page on our website for further information.
A range of themes and skills will be practised through listening, speaking, reading and writing in Māori. Some of the topics include: whānaungatanga, Te Whenua Ora, Ngā Mahi Raranga, Whaikōrero, Etahi tikanga, Ngā Kai, Taranaki, Ngā Toi Māori Tuku iho, Te Māori Ki Te Whenua Hou, Te Maunga Taranaki and Tangihanga.
Additional possibilities: Performing Arts offers Dance and Music standards. Ākonga can be assessed individually, or as part of a group.
