Flexible learning at Te Kura

Supporting ākonga success.

You may have noticed that we're not like other kura. We recognise that there is only one version of you – that's what makes you special.

We also know that you have your own interests, talents and strengths, and we welcome you and your whole family to join us on your learning journey.

We set up all the support you need to succeed, and give you the mana to decide how you want to do it. This is flexible learning.

We want to help you feel connected while learning in your own way, and support you to grow into a strong, confident, independent and self-managing member of your community.

    Te Ara Pounamu

    Learning that's made for you.

Te Ara Pounamu is our local curriculum that reflects the philosophy of Big Picture Learning. It takes the best of Aotearoa New Zealand's national curricula and makes it real for you. At the heart of it all is you – your passions, your strengths, and your future goals. Te Ara Pounamu connects your learning with your world today and helps to light a path for tomorrow.

Ngā Mātāpono – guiding principles for Te Ara Pounamu

Placing ākonga and their whānau at the centre.

Te Ara Pounamu is guided by five principles that are visible in learning design at Te Kura:

Drawn from te ao Māori, these principles are interwoven through Ara Ako – the pathways of learning, and My Korowai – your PLP.

Ara Ako – learning pathways for Te Ara Pounamu

    Different paths, same journey.

There's more than one way to learn at Te Kura. Through Ara Ako you can explore:

You can use each context to create a learning plan that works for you, building your skills and knowledge step by step.

My Korowai – your Personalised Learning Plan

    Your plan, your progress.

My Korowai is your PLP. You'll create your plan with your kaimanaaki and whānau, weaving together your goals, passions and progress across Ara Ako. It's a tool to help you track your journey, reflect on your learning, and plan your next steps.

Think of it as your own korowai; uniquely yours, made to fit you.

    Digital citizenship and online safety

Be smart. Be safe. Be kind.

When you're learning online, it's important to know how to stay safe and use the internet wisely.

    Digital citizenship means:

You'll learn these skills as part of your online learning journey with Te Kura. And remember, you don't have to do it alone. Talk with your whānau about what you're learning online so they can support you.

Netsafe provides online safety information and resources for you and your whānau.
